Try Chalk Paint to Repurpose, Restore, Relove

Poly Acrylic Protection*

IMG_0619When you get to the protection stage there are the waxes and the clear poly acrylics, water based polys that is.

I have used mainly Cabots, I already had a small can of matt but when I  went to get a larger one, I could only find the satin or gloss.  The satin is glossy enough for me.

After hearing some good reviews of MinWax, when Masters Hardware started here, it was a product they carried.  Actually they carried many of the brands that people in the USA had been sharing information on.  So I decided to try it.

I used it on this cabinet.

IMG_1605To my eye, there is more than a satin finish, to me it is a gloss, yet I couldn’t find a matt finish to purchase.

I have not use the Wipe-On Poly, have read some reviews, some like it and others have had problems with it.  So I will test it shortly and get back with the results.

It is all a matter of your taste.  That’s one of the great things about painting your own furniture.  You choose!

The main thing is to protect your work.  I prefer the wax on better pieces, something that will not be used everyday or have a lot of use.  There is something about the feel of a chalk style painted piece of furniture that you just want to feel it, it seems to have a softness that other furniture doesn’t.  Maybe that’s just me 🙂
