Refinish*
There are many different ways to refinish furniture. One thing that is constant in all types of furniture refinishing and that is the pride you take in doing the best job you possibly can.
You may like to use chalk paint as we do and the attention to detail will give you a wonderful finish.
Some of the other ways to refinish a piece of your furniture are –
Stains, many colours to choose from in the wood stains. Mixing can bring out some great results.
Antique or faux finishes
Painting, including chalk paint.
To complete the refinish, a protective top coat is needed more often than not.
These protective coats include the Estapol or poly-acrylic. Water based poly-acrylic is best used over white as it will not yellow over time as the enamel type does.
The wax that we use over the chalk paint gives a wonderful feel, very different to all the other protective coats you can use.
Some people like to distress their restored pieces of furniture. I’m not in that club. I like mine to distress naturally.
While we are on distressing, you have to remember, if you are re-purposing a piece, that means you are using it for a different purpose than what it was originally intended for, the use will be different and so will the distress that it gets. So if you do distress, keep it light until you see how the use goes. It will happen all by itself, well sort of, with your family’s help.
The best part with chalk paint is you can use it anywhere inside, outside, on anything from timber, metal, pottery, cane, wicker, enamel, terracotta, just about anything. While you have the paint brush in your hand pick up a small article and see how it goes.
